Blogs – How to Build a WordPress Blog from Scratch Quickly and Easily

WordPress has revolutionized the way web content producers (that’s you and I) operate. I started using WordPress a few years ago, and I was blown away by how simple and intuitive it is to use. Most importantly, it allows you to build and deploy a full, content-loaded website in a matter of hours instead of days or even weeks. If you’re like me, you have a lot of ideas for websites – but not a lot of time. With hosting and domain registration so cheap and easy these days, there’s no excuse for not running as many sites as you can or at least until 1 or 2 of them hit the big time and start making money for you. And, of course, you want the site to make money for you without hours and hours of hard work. So on to WordPress – and how you can start building sites right now and start making money/getting traffic/learning the web empire ropes right now!

Here’s what I do when I have a simple idea for a site, and no time to build it out :
1. Register the domain name (I used to wait until the idea was more fully realized, but these days domain names are getting ridiculously hard to find). Blerz uses GoDaddy as a web host. Their Linux web hosting packages support wordpress right out of the box, no problems there.
2. Download this WordPress package from WordPress.org – the current version is 2.7. In a later post I will be providing for download a wordpress starter kit that has all the plugins I use for every wordpress install, as well as the settings I use for the best SEO results, and more.
3. Install, and setup WordPress. This is the famout 5-minute install, and it really is as easy to use as it seems. It just works, which are 3 magic words you’ll become very familiar with on Blerz. Setting up wordpress is easy enough – setting up WordPress to work really well is a little more involved – but don’t worry, I will walk you through it at a later date. Stay tuned for more in this series!
